The school is able to admit up to 25 pupils in the 2006/2007 academic year. The closing date for receipt of Reception applications is December (the LEA booklet “Primary education in Stockport – Information for Parents” gives full details). For September 2005 we received 23 applications for places at Brookside. In Stockport there is a policy of planned early admission to school so that children whose fifth birthday falls between September 1st and August 31st all start school in September. Appointments can be made to look around the school by telephoning the school office to arrange a mutually convenient time.
Parents receive a formal letter offering their child a place at the school in the April before they are due to start the following September. All new entrants are invited to spend several mornings or afternoons in school to become familiar with their classroom and teacher. Parents are able to join their child for their first lunch in school, an occasion always enjoyed by all!
If you are not allocated to the Community school of your preference then you have a right of appeal against the Authority’s decision to an Independent Appeal Panel. Parents who wish to appeal are advised to contact the Secretary to the Independent Appeal Panel on 0161 474 3204.
When they start school children are admitted for either a morning or an afternoon for the first three weeks. This enables children to adjust gradually to school routine and for the teacher to get to know the children and complete base line assessments. After three weeks children may attend school full-time, but the option to continue on a part time basis remains available for those children for whom it is appropriate. From the beginning of the spring term all children will attend school full time. |
