Our new ICT suite was officially opened by the Worshipful Mayor and Mayoress of Stockport" (Councillor Peter Burns and Mrs Margaret Burns) on 3rd March.
This state-of-the-art 25 workstation ICT suite, complete with the latest 78" Interactive Whiteboard and XP Server is broadband linked and networked across the whole school. This improvement will be of benefit to every child at Brookside and will develop teaching and learning opportunities significantly.
Brookside Primary School is hosting its own version of 'Make your Mark with a Tenner', the groundbreaking challenge for 10,000 teenage students to make an impact with just £10. (more details at www.starttalkingideas.org/mym_with_a_tenner)
The original Challenge, which is running in the month of February 2007, is simple. Each teenage student is 'loaned' £10 and given 1 month to make an impact. Participants must work to the best of their abilities to ensure that within one month they are able to repay their initial £10 and demonstrate how they made their mark and what profit they made. There is a focus on 'ethical' projects which help the local community.
At Brookside we will be setting this task to the 16 children in our junior Computer Club. Any profits made will go to the school's charity for the year, Francis House. Projects range from signs designed and made for a local business to a set of cards for Easter. The children have pooled their £10 and formed small teams. They will sell their products from table-tops at our forthcoming 'Spring 'Show', closely supervised by our staff. At the conclusion of the project the pupils will write a short report on their idea and how it went
"This is a very novel and exciting opportunity for the children. Using our fantastic new ICT resources, they can safely apply their creativity and the skills they have developed to the benefit of themselves and others. I can't wait to see the results! My thanks to all who have supported the scheme" George Bulman, Headteacher
